The PA Turnpike has a plan that could keep the states roads from going private. Tolls on I-80, for example, could raise "tens of millions of dollars," Turnpike Commission Chief Executive Joe Brimmeier and keep the turnpike under the turnpike commission. In addition, "All the profits that would got to a private firm would go to PennDOT," Brimmeier said. "We intend to show how we can close the funding gap that limits the state's ability to care for roads and bridges."
So is this a viable alternative to leasing the turnpike?
